    BILLIARDS

    Come out to play a billiards game or two at the Centre. Two Billiards tables and all the equipment is provided for your convenience and the pleasure of the game.

    A dedicated group of bridge enthusiasts meet to play contract bridge in a casual and friendly setting. A great way to improve your concentration skills.

    Have fun while learning the rules of contract bridge, a card game enjoyed by many and played at the Centres. Participants will be provided with informative handouts during their lessons.

    Learn how to take great pictures using your own camera.

  • CERAMICS

    Beginners are welcome in this volunteer led class. Learn how to clean and paint ceramic pieces.

  • CLOGGING (BEGINNER)
    Tuesday 9:00 – 10:00 am
    ESC - Clogging Room
    Clog dancing is a type of step dancing. This class is for beginners. Music is varied in its beat - slow and fast. This is a good activity for those who like to dance and socialize. Attention is paid to making sure everyone has fun, gets a bit of exercise and a chance to chat and catch up with everyone’s activities. Participants must purchase their own clogging shoes.

  • CLOGGING (INTERMEDIATE)

    Clog dancing is a type of step dancing. This class is for anyone who has basic clogging steps. Music is varied in its beat - slow and fast.     All three Centres have state of the art computers, all with internet access, thanks to a Community Access Program (CAP) grant from Industry Canada. The Goyeau Street Centre computers are set up in our computer lab. The Edward Street and Olde Sandwich Towne Centres' computers are stationed in the Community Centres and accessible to our seniors. Volunteers are available to provide instruction and/or support by calling 254-1108 (GSC) or 944-1403 (ESC).

  • COMPUTER INSTRUCTION / INTERNET INSTRUCTION
    Brennan Secondary School
    Pre-registration is required for this workshop taught by students at Brennan Secondary School. Check the monthly program for specific dates and times.

  • CONCERT BAND
    Tuesday 9:00 am - 12:00 noon
    GSC - Main Level
    If you have musical instrument experience and your own instrument, then you’ll want to join this senior concert band that meets weekly to practice. A major component of this program is to entertain throughout the community.

  • CRAFT WORKSHOP

    If you enjoy making crafts, then this program is tailor-made for you! A different craft item is produced at each session. Workshop descriptions and specific dates are listed in our monthly program and registration is required. Supplies are provided by the Centre and the finished product is sold at our Annual Craft Bazaar at Devonshire Mall. A great way to learn a new craft, enjoy the company of other crafters and support the Centres.

    Do you like crafts? Would you like to make new friends or maybe meet old ones too? Join our gregarious group of crafters, who meet once or twice a week to produce a variety of beautiful crafts, which are then sold at our annual Craft Bazaar at Devonshire Mall. All supplies and materials are provided by the Centres.

    Stimulate your mind while having fun at the same time! This classic game involves strategy, luck and the company of great people. Drop in anytime for a fun game.

    Did you always want to learn how to play this traditional card game? The object of the game is to obtain 121 points before your opponent does. Now is your chance to learn the necessary rules.

    Fulfill your acting dream! This club gives seniors a chance to perform to a live audience and allows them to express their creative talents. The club works together to produce an annual performance whether it is musicals, comedies, dramas or skits.

    Join us for this very enjoyable and popular card game. This program is offered for people who are familiar with game rules. A great way to improve your concentration skills and meet new friends!

  • FITNESS: ELDEROBICS

    A low-impact aerobic workout geared towards all aspects of fitness. Designed to promote and maintain a productive and healthy lifestyle by increasing energy, mobility and social activity.

  • FITNESS: STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE

    A gentle exercise program designed to improve muscular fitness (strength and endurance), cardio-respiratory endurance and flexibility. It consists of warm up exercises, sitting exercises and walking, all done to music in a non-intimidating setting.

    A Registered Nurse from V.O.N. offers blood pressure screening and health counselling on a weekly basis. This drop-in service is provided free of charge, on a one-on-one basis.

  • HIKING CLUB

    Additional Cost: pay for your own lunch
    Join us for this fun walking program. Each week, this group meets at the Edward Street Centre and carpools to various hiking and lunch destinations. A great way to get in shape, have fun and see our wonderful city!

  • INCOME TAX CLINIC – Centre Membership or Day Pass NOT Required
    We provide basic Income Tax preparation by appointment only. This service is free of charge open to those 55+ with limited income. Certain criteria must be met to be eligible for this service. Call for more information and for specific dates.

  • LAPIDARY AND SILVERSMITHING
    Tuesday and Thursday
    9:00 am - 12 noon
    GSC Craft Room #2, Lower Level
    Group Fee: $20.00 per year
    Learn how to shape and polish semi-precious stones, then make rings or other settings to mount the stones in. We have the equipment, and the instructors who are ready to teach you.

    Join us in a fun, friendly atmosphere to learn some of the latest and most popular line dances. This is a great way to exercise, enjoy social fun and learn new dance skills. The participants in this course have a great time and gladly welcome newcomers!

    You will explore a variety of meditation techniques to help quiet restless thoughts and reduce anxiety.

  • MOVING MOMENTS

    Soothe your senses while listening and moving to classical music. Relax your body by using a s equence of slow, flowing movements as you enjoy this combination of dance and exercise.

    A representative from Canada Pension will answer pension related questions. By appointment only.

  • PEPPER

    Cost: $1.00 (prize money)
    If you like Euchre, you’ll love Pepper. It is a very easy game to learn and offers opportunities for strategy both in the bidding and the play. The game can be played with four or six players.

  • PRECISION DRILL TEAM

    If you want to combine a bit of dancing and a good dose of exercise, then this is the class for you! This group focuses on precision and well-choreographed routines performed to music.

  • PIANO LESSONS (BEGINNER)

    Instructor fee of $2.00
    Structured classes in basic piano skills, reading music, and theory. Principles of rhythm, melody, harmony, and ear training are taught on portable keyboards. At home practice is strongly recommended. Learn at your own pace.

    This gathering of new and old friends is open to the public. Bring your favorite dish (enough to feed four) and join this friendly gathering. A great way to meet old friends and make new ones!

    This energetic group of ladies meets to reminisce, to share their everyday stories and just to chat while having a cup of tea or coffee. A wonderful way to meet new friends!

  • SEQUENCE DANCING

    Learn the steps practice the rhythm and have a great time with your favorite dances, based on standard ballroom and Latin dances including waltz, quickstep, foxtrot and rumba. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon, get some exercise and meet new friends. Single welcome!

    Whether you are just an amateur or “Pro”, you are guaranteed to have lots of fun in the gregarious company of our ‘seasoned’ snooker players. Come by and find out for yourself!

    Anyone who has mastered all 317 movements of Tai Chi can join this class.

  • TAP DANCE

    Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers danced on air. You can too! Join us for a great way to learn a new skill and get some exercise. No experience needed - come on out and learn how to tap. Participants are responsible for purchasing their own tap shoes.

  • THERAPEUTIC TOUCH

    Therapeutic Touch is a non-invasive holistic approach to facilitating healing. It is a consciously directed process of energy exchange during which the TT Practitioner uses the hands as a focus for healing. TT has been proven to reduce pain and enhance a person’s healing ability.

    As its name suggests, the welcome club is an initiative to ensure that new members receive proper orientation through follow up call, introduction to programs and a monthly luncheon. This system helps new members become familiar with the programs, services and staff at the centres.
